Who Said ‘Never Fight Uphill, Me Boys’?
Source of the quote “Never fight uphill, me boys!” is not attributed to the late General Robert E. Lee. It’s highly improbable that the esteemed General would have employed such informal language akin to that of a pirate during a battle. Additionally, it’s even less conceivable that he would have instructed his troops to engage solely in downhill combat.
The originator of the phrase has been identified, and surprisingly, it’s none other than Donald Trump himself. It appears that Trump has been echoing the “me boys” line in reference to Robert E. Lee since his 2020 campaign. Evidence from a speech delivered in Bemidji, Minnesota reveals Trump attributing the same quote to Lee as far back as four years ago.
On April 13th, 2024, Trump made an appearance at a campaign rally in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, where he chose to delve into the topic of the Battle of Gettysburg. This decision might have been influenced by the fact that Gettysburg is situated approximately 100 miles from Schnecksville.
